Bumba Meu Boi é uma festa/dança brasileira que surgiu no século Xlll, ocorre no norte e nordeste no período de Junho, originada pelo folclore brasileiro. Nessa época, o Boi tinha uma importância simbólica e econômica. Os principais criadores do gado eram os colonizadores e a mão de obra utilizada era escrava. Por ser um evento de origem negra, a festa foi perseguida pela polícia nordestina e foi proibida de 1861 a 1868.
A lenda Bumba Meu Boi envolve um casal de escravos, Pai Francisco e Mãe Catarina. Catarina estava grávida e tinha desejo de comer língua de boi, então Francisco matou e cortou a língua do boi mais bonito que tinha. Quando o dono da fazenda notou que o boi tinha morrido, convocou os curandeiros e os pajés para ressuscitá-lo. O boi voltou a vida e então a comunidade comemorou a tal feito. Alguma histórias falam que o dono perdoou o casal, outras contam que foram jurados de vingança.
